By Our Correspondent.Nawalpur, June 23: Cargo transportation along the Narayangadh–Butwal road section remains severely disrupted, with goods trucks stranded for six consecutive days at Daunne and Binayi River in Nawalpur due to floods that swept away diversions built on the Binayi River multiple times.
Rajesh BK, a truck driver travelling from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, shared the hardships of being stuck en route, “For three nights, I slept in the truck inside the forest under unbearable heat. Food was scarce until I reached Arunkhola market.”
Inspector Janak Banjara, Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, said that many vehicles have been stuck in the place for days, with some returning to their origin while others are still awaiting clearance. “We have relocated vehicles from narrow zones to open spaces for better access to food and shelter,” he added.
The westbound vehicles are queued at the Binayi River, while eastbound trucks and buses are stuck on the slope of Daunne hill.
Following repeated washouts--eight times in total--district authorities have declared that no further diversion will be built to cross the Binayi River at Dumkibas.
In addition, vehicular movement has been completely suspended from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am daily until further notice.
Chief District Officer Bhawishwar Pandey said that the alternative diversion was introduced after a bridge over the Binayi River collapsed on January 10 after being unable to bear pressure of heavy-loaded trucks.
However, ongoing floods have made it unsafe to use diversions. A bus was swept away Friday midnight while attempting to cross the diversion, prompting officials to halt the use of diversions.
