By Bishnu Prasad Pokharel, Damak, April 20: Two people have sustained injuries in an elephant attack near Bahundangi Chowk in Mechinagar Municipality-4, Jhapa.
According to police, the victims are a mother and her daughter
Spokesperson of the District Police Office, Jhapa, Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, said that 38 year old Sunita Bajracharya and her 13 year-old daughter Yavadra were attacked by an elephant on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred while they were sitting on the veranda of their home.
The elephant reportedly dragged both of them, causing severe injuries.
Locals immediately rescued the victims and rushed them to B&C Hospital in Birtamod, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Both have sustained serious injuries to their legs, police said.
Authorities stated that the elephant had suddenly entered the house.
Meanwhile, in another incident, two elephants have been spotted since Wednesday in the forest of Barne of Buddha Shanti Rural Municipality in Jhapa.
Police have urged locals not to provoke or tease the animals, warning that such actions could lead to human casualties.
Officials have also conducted public announcements, advising residents to remain cautious and avoid risky behavior around wild elephants.
