By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 12: The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives has given various instructions to the government to solve the problems that have surfaced in immigration at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
A meeting chaired by Committee’s President Ramhari Khatiwada on Sunday gave instructions to amend the existing law related to immigration and human trafficking and solve the visa problem, among others.
Similarly, the meeting instructed to coordinate with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to manage sufficient manpower at the airport.
The Committee also instructed to make necessary arrangements to make the airport less crowded.
President Khatiwada said that the government would take the necessary measures to strengthen open cross-border security.
In the meeting of the Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Narayan Kaji Shrestha complained that the transferred employees had refused to go to work at the airport’s immigration.
DPM Shrestha said that the government would not backtrack from investigating the embezzlement of 10 ropanis of land belonging to the Bansbari Leather Shoe Industry.
He said that although the Court ordered to release the convicts and to investigate by keeping them out of custody, the government (police administration) was committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation.
In response to the question raised by the parliamentarians regarding the assault on the employees at the airport, Inspector General of Police Basant Bahadur Kunwar replied that the matter was under investigation.
Nepali Congress General Secretary and Member of Parliament Bishwa Prakash Sharma demanded immediate rescue of Nepali citizens working in the Russian army. Sharma drew the serious attention of the government saying that more than a dozen Nepalis died and three more were arrested.
Former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and party president of Rastriya Swantantra Party took a dig at Shrestha saying that many reasons for corruption including the transfer of government lands, and many current problems were the result of the inefficiency of the Home Ministry and its leadership.
