By Tilachan Pandey,Gulmi, (Tamghas), May 9: Five local governments in Gulmi district have been providing services from their own well-equipped administrative buildings, while three others are still operating from rented space.

Among the district’s 12 local levels, Musikot Municipality, Resunga Municipality, Malika Rural Municipality, Chhatrakot Rural Municipality and Ruru Kshetra Rural Municipality have been delivering services from their own administrative buildings.

Administrative buildings of Dhurkot Rural Municipality, Madane Rural Municipality and Chandrakot Rural Municipality are currently under construction. Chhatrakot Rural Municipality, which had been operating from a community hall, recently shifted its services to a newly constructed well-equipped administrative building.

Madane Rural Municipality has been operating from the former Village Development Committee office building, while Ishma Rural Municipality has been delivering services from a school building. Dhurkot Rural Municipality and Satyawati Rural Municipality have been operating from multi-purpose and community halls respectively.

Three local govts still in rented buildings

Three local governments are still providing services from rented buildings even after nine years since the establishment of the local level structure. Because of the lack of administrative buildings, they have been spending significant amounts on rent.

Gulmi Durbar Rural Municipality, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality and Chandrakot Rural Municipality are still operating from rented premises.

Kaligandaki Rural Municipality has recently managed land for the construction of its administrative building and has called for tenders. According to the rural municipality, the agreement process for the construction of a well-equipped three-storey building is under way. The municipality currently spends Rs. 90,000 per month in rent for two buildings.

Meanwhile, Gulmi Durbar Rural Municipality has also moved forward with the construction of its administrative building.

Since its establishment, Chandrakot Rural Municipality has been operating from the building of Chandrakot Campus. Information Officer Shiva Prasad Gyawali said the municipality currently pays Rs. 97,000 per month in rent to the campus. He added that construction of the municipality’s administrative building is in its final phase.

Similarly, Gulmi Durbar Rural Municipality has been paying a monthly rent of Rs. 74,951 for three buildings. The municipality stated that the process for constructing its administrative building has also moved ahead.
