By Radhakrishna Dumre,Waling (Syangja), May 9: The Kaligandaki 'A' Hydropower Station, operating under the Nepal Electricity Authority, will halt electricity generation for four days.
According to the plant, all three turbines of the 144 MW hydropower project will be completely shut down as major maintenance work needs to be carried out at the facility.
Atmesh Poudyal, head of the hydroelectric power station, said that the water flowing towards the tunnel for the maintenance of the powerhouse has been returned to the natural flow area of the river by opening all the gates of the dam from 5 pm on Friday.
As a result, the water level in areas downstream of the dam is expected to rise suddenly, he said.
He said that people living in riverside areas and those working near the riverbanks have been urged to exercise special caution due to the increased river flow.
The project has already requested that construction materials or any private belongings kept along the riverbanks or nearby areas be moved to safer locations by this afternoon.
The dam gates will be closed again starting from the morning on May 12, 2026, and warned that risks in the surrounding areas may increase during the maintenance period.
According to the plant, electricity production from the project is expected to improve after the maintenance work is completed.
