By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 9: President Ramchandra Paudel has said that artistes, creativity and culture are among the nation’s greatest treasures.
Addressing the Natikaji National Music Honour and Award Distribution Ceremony-2083 Friday, he said that art, literature and music are the elements that bind society together while promoting unity, tolerance and prosperity.
He said the power of music is unparalleled and that it also serves as the foundation of a common language, prosperity and national identity.
“In our country, which is multi-ethnic, multilingual and multicultural, with unique geographical diversity, literature, art, songs and music form the basis for strengthening national unity by fostering love, friendship and brotherhood among people,” he said.
He stressed that maintaining a balance between tradition and modernity in the development of Nepali music is equally important. Preserving traditional melodies, rhythms and styles while embracing modern technology and innovative practices presents both a challenge and an opportunity for today’s creators, he added.
President Paudel said the state should not hesitate to honour creators engaged in the fields of music and lyrics, which have the ability to express various aspects of human emotion, adding that such recognition is also a hallmark of a civilised and cultured society.
“Therefore, the government and concerned stakeholders should always support the dignity of creators, the preservation of culture, and the development of music and lyrics,” he said.
He described Natikaji’s contribution to the creation of modern Nepali music inspired by folk songs as exemplary.
“The awareness, love, patriotism and human emotions reflected in Natikaji’s creations have made her immortal among Nepali music lovers. In particular, her patriotic and timeless songs have deepened love for the motherland and enhanced pride in Nepali music,” he said.
