'Agora' Can Bring Best Out Of You

blog

I recently delivered a virtual address about mental health in front of roughly 300 people. I was determined to create a strong first impression and urge my audience to take mental health seriously. I was composed, assured, and, for the most part, self-assured. Attending and participating in Agora meetings over the years provided morale.

In ancient Greece, an Agora was a public open place used for gatherings. On a similar line, Agora Speakers is a non-profit educational organisation that educates individuals to become great communicators and confident leaders to make the world a better place through a global network of clubs. One must have confidence in order to command the languages of others, and this takes practise. English is a lingua franca, and textbook-based tasks are insufficient for mastery.

I recall, as if it were yesterday, being nearly dragged into a poem-writing and recitation competition in first grade since the person expected to represent my school at the time apparently suffered a stomach pain at the last minute. That was my first time on stage, and despite being unsteady and taken away by the abrupt surprise, I managed to prepare a last-minute poem and perform it in front of 19 schools' worth of children and instructors.

That's when I realised I was in love with the stage. I started going to speaking contests all throughout my neighbourhood, and while it wasn't ideal, it was entertaining. My father and others of my instructors subsequently introduced me to an Agora

Basically, Agora assisted me in becoming a more confident speaker by providing a supportive and welcoming atmosphere in which everyone can learn, practise, and develop their basic public speaking abilities. We can discover a friendly environment, useful experience exchange, and good feedback sessions. Speaking out and allowing my shortcomings to be revealed while gradually but surely improving my capabilities helped me discover a weakness I was unaware of, while the club activity helps you accept and embrace your weakness and convert it into your strength.

There are several responsibilities in Agora Speakers, such as meeting leader, evaluators, speakers, and so on. Each function has a purpose in supporting and improving everyone as a whole, rather than tearing others down to get to the top. Assume you're in a meeting and want to improve your speaking skills, but you've been assigned the role of the Ah-Counter!, a role in which you don't get to speak much for yourself but get to carefully listen to others and evaluate everyone else's speeches, which certainly helps you to become a great listener, and your evaluation helps the speaker improve their speeches. More than merely being a speaker, Agora assists you with overall quality growth.

In fact, it will benefit you a lot in your work. For example, one of the most popular opening questions in a job interview is "Tell me about yourself."

While the interviewer already has your resume, he has still to learn about your personality, sense of presence, body language, confidence, and other comparable etiquettes that you will not study in school.

Consider the circumstances after getting employed as another example. Will you be able to manage the work if hired? How much of an influence would you have on your surroundings? Are you a good team player or a prospective leader? Are you an attentive listener? All of these minor details, coupled with your academic results, have a significant impact in the long term.

At last, on the basis of my journey from a hesitant speaker to a confident communicator, I can assure you that being in Agora you learn real skills, as Fred Jones, the ambassador of Agora Speakers International, says "This is the era of artificial intelligence, hence one must have certain skills that make them different and better manpower than others".

We met Fred Jones, who is on a quest to help young people become outstanding communicators and confident leaders who will make the world a better place. We learned a lot from him, and we were excited to show off our club activity.

My school and instructors are to be given credit for bringing us to the Ripumardini Sainik Mahabidyalaya Agora Speakers Club (102). I'd want to encourage everyone out there to join our group and overcome their reservations.
