CJ Raut retires

Kathmandu, March 31: Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has retired due to age limit, 65 year-old, on Tuesday.     

Senior most Justice at Supreme Court, Sapana Pradhan Malla, bade farewell to CJ Raut amidst a function.     

Raut was appointed the Chief Justice on October 6, 2024. His term for service expired with his age completing 65.     

With Raut's retirement, senior most Justice Malla will be handling the responsibility of Officiating Chief Justice.     

Meanwhile, the Judicial Council has recommended the senior most Justice Malla and Justices Kumar Regmi, Hari Phuyal, Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma, Dr Nahakul Subedi and Til Prasad Shrestha for the post of the next Chief Justice.     

The constitution has the provision that Constitutional Council makes a recommendation of Chief Justice a month before the CJ retires. Once the parliamentary hearing endorses the recommended names, he/she is appointed by the President.(RSS)
