By Our Correspondent,Bajura, Mar. 31: A newly constructed suspension bridge over the Ajay Khola in Gaumul Rural Municipality-3 of Bajura has connected two settlements, reducing travel time for locals.
The bridge, built between Majhpali and Dhaulakanda villages, has made movement much easier. Previously, residents had to walk for nearly an hour to travel from one settlement to the other. With the bridge now in place, the journey takes only a few minutes.
The lack of a bridge had also created difficulties for schoolchildren, as the only school is located in one of the settlements. Students from the other village faced challenges attending classes.
Manmati Rokaya, a Grade 6 student at Thumthala Basic School, said it used to take nearly an hour to reach school before the bridge was built. “Now, with the suspension bridge connecting Majhpali and Dhaulakanda, it takes just a few minutes for children to get to school,” she said.
Residents also faced problems crossing the river, especially during difficult conditions. With the construction of the bridge, those issues have now been resolved, Rokaya added.
The bridge construction began in December 2022 and was completed in April 2024. It has since been officially inaugurated.
According to Gorakh Bahadur Rokaya, Chairperson of Gaumul Rural Municipality-3, the bridge has not only benefited schoolchildren but also eased travel for residents of Majhpali, Dhaulakanda, Garje and Pate.
“This is one of the longest suspension bridges in the district and it has now become a local attraction, drawing many visitors,” he said.
The bridge, which has gained popularity across the district, is expected to benefit around 263 households in the area.
