By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 22: A literary evening dedicated to World Poetry Day was organised in Kathmandu on Friday, bringing together poets, writers, and literary enthusiasts in a vibrant celebration of verse and cultural exchange.
The programme was organised by the Nepal-Russian Literary Society (NRLS) in collaboration with the Russian House in Kathmandu.
In the event, Anastasia Khokhlova, Director of the Russian House, underscored the importance of passing literary knowledge on to the younger generation.
Vice-Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Bimal Nibha, remarked that he had the chance to explore the vast treasure of Russian literature through translated works, highlighting the role of translation in bridging cultures.
Rinchen Rakshaev, Charge d’Affaires of the Russian Embassy in Nepal, expressed his gratitude to the organisers and participants and emphasised the vital role of poetry in fostering social harmony.
During the poetic session, poets including Chandra Kant Acharya, Bishnu Bahadur Singh, Bimal Nibha, Shakuntala Joshi, Kiran Darnal, Keshav Raja Bista, Sushil Sigdel, Anastasia Khokhlova, Jangab Chauhan, among others, recited poems on themes such as life, love, and human experience.
The event served as a meaningful bridge between cultures, where Russian and Nepali poetry resonated in harmony, symbolically welcoming the approaching 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Nepal.
Ram Bindu Shrestha, Secretary-General of the NRLS, and Bhabana Nyopane, librarian at the Russian House, also spoke on the transformative role of poetry in shaping social thought and consciousness.
