BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Apr. 6: The fifth edition of the Page 3 People’s Choice Award 1146 has been announced to honour artists in the Nepal Bhasa entertainment sector. The announcement was made during a programme held at City Centre, Kathmandu on Saturday.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the Film Development Board Nepal, Dinesh DC, pointed out the importance of Nepal Bhasa as an indigenous language of the nation and stressed the need for such initiatives to encourage creators producing content in the language. He stated that the number of ‘views’ on social media alone should not be the sole criterion for evaluating creative works, emphasising that award programmes must be conducted with integrity and transparency.
Senior film journalist Bijay Ratna Ansanbare said that awards of such nature helped boost the morale of artists and provided motivation for their work. He also suggested shortening the interval between editions, stating that the event was currently being held after a gap of three years.
Managing Director of Elohan Publications, Naresh Bir Shakya, stated that the organising team remained committed to the development of the Nepal Bhasa language, literature, and entertainment. He added that the award had been organised specifically to recognise the contributions of artists active in the Nepal Bhasa entertainment industry.
According to the organisers, awards will be distributed in categories such as best Nepal Bhasa song, music, music video, and film, based on 60 per cent jury evaluation and 40 per cent public voting. A ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ will also be presented to a creator who has made a significant contribution to the field.
Submissions of names for the award have been open from April 4 and continue until April 18.
