First sunrise of Nepali new year (Photo Feature)

The New Year, 2083,  is being celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm, joy, and a spirit of new beginnings.

People from all walks of life are exchanging best wishes and celebrating the first day of the year with happiness and excitement.

Today is also observed as Baisakh Sankranti, also known as Mesha Sankranti, as the Sun completes its transit through Pisces (Meen Rashi) and enters Aries (Mesha Rashi). This day marks both the beginning of the Nepali New Year and an important astrological event.

Since the Bikram Sambat calendar follows the Sun's movement, it is regarded as an eternal and scientifically grounded calendar system

Traditionally, the first day of the New Year is considered a time for reflection and renewal. People evaluate the successes and failures of the previous year, make plans to avoid past mistakes, and set new goals and resolutions for the year ahead.
