By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 6: Writer Nawa Raj Subba has released a non-fiction titled 'Mundhum Aesthetics' in English.

The book focuses on the poetic and philosophical vision of Kirat culture, offering a profound exploration of the aesthetic dimensions of the Kirat Mundhum. Subba, a Biratnagar-based writer, explained that the work interprets Mundhum hymns through an aesthetic lens, with a particular focus on nature, human emotions, and existential inquiry.

"It aims to elevate the Mundhum from a purely ritualistic context to the realm of global philosophical discourse," he said. He further emphasised the importance of translating indigenous Mundhum wisdom into the broader framework of global aesthetics. "I have adopted an open-access model to ensure that this knowledge remains accessible to all," he added.

Publisher Hamro Idea highlights that the Mundhum is not merely a collection of chants and rituals, but an aesthetic vision, an enduring way of life that harmonises humanity, nature, and the universe.

"The study carefully examines the collective soul expressed in the Sakela dance, the creative force embodied in the Chyabrung drum, and the philosophical resonance of Mip-ma (reflective memory)," reads the book’s blurb. "Its essence lies in the sublime, and in the symbolic correlation between the grandeur of the Himalayas, the musical flow of rivers, and the sanctity of the tin chula (three-stone hearth)."

According to the publisher, the book serves both as a philosophical guide and as a primordial antidote for those seeking to reconnect with the original rhythms of nature.

To ensure wide reach and academic accessibility, the book has been released in three formats: open access, paperback, and e-book. It is informed that researchers and students can download the digital version free of charge from the author's official website and major open-access repositories.

Subba has contributed to the fields of literature, culture, and public health for over three decades. The paperback edition is priced at Rs. 499.
