By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 26: The Nepali Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS) has celebrated its 15th anniversary. Addressing the programme, Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Ashok Raj Sigdel said the institute had not only produced doctors and healthcare professionals, but had also supported the government’s efforts to invest in the health sector and develop quality healthcare institutions to meet the country’s healthcare needs and shortages.
CoAS Sigdel said the institute still had more work to do in producing multidisciplinary human resources related to the health sector and urged the institution to continue its efforts in that direction. Chief of the Army Staff Sigdel also thanked the institute’s Executive Director, Prof. Dr. Devendra Bahadur Khatri, for presenting an encouraging annual report. He praised the institute for producing not only skilled and quality professionals, but also dutiful, disciplined and ethical manpower, while providing healthcare services to the Nepali Army and their dependent family members. He said the institution had become one worthy of pride. He further urged the institute to institutionalise its recent achievements and continue developing into a leading institution in the fields of education and health sciences.
Similarly, the institute’s Executive Director, Prof. Dr Khatri, said that a total of 589 students had so far graduated from various academic programmes conducted by the institute. He also informed that 1,215 students are currently studying in different faculties, including medical sciences. He further said that the institute had achieved a success rate of more than 96 per cent in the medical licensing examinations conducted by the Nepal Medical Council.
During the programme, students who excelled in various fields of service and academics were honoured with cash prizes, medals and certificates by the Army Chief and other general officers. NAIHS runs under the Nepali Army Welfare Board.
