Janakpurdham, Jan. 23: Basant Panchami, also known as Saraswati Puja, is being marked across the country on Friday. As Saraswati Puja draws near, students, schools and educational institutions are stepping up their efforts in idol installation, decoration and worship arrangements

Preparations for Saraswati Puja are underway in a grand manner in Janakpurdham and various districts of Madhes Province. The idols of Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge and wisdom, are in their final stages of preparation. Idols of Goddess Saraswati to be installed at various locations in Janakpurdham are now ready.

According to Janakpurdham-based sculptor Uttimlal Pandit, all the idols will reach their respective destinations by this evening.

“Some idols will go to schools, some to institutes, and others to different squares and crossroads,” he added.

The idols made as per demand are now ready for sale. While painting the idols, sculptor Pandit informed that their prices range from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 21,000.

He said that compared to last year, orders have slightly increased this year.  “Earlier, I had made 32 idols, but this year I have received orders for 40,” he added.

“Previously, only we used to make the idols. Now sculptors from India also make idols here, so the demand has slightly declined,” he said.
