Kathmandu, Jan. 22: Poet Umesh Akinchan presented some poems of various flavours in Pokhara amid the presence of a number of literary figures.

Organised by the Nepali Writers’ Association, Gandaki, the poet recited more than a dozen of his poems.

Akinchan stated that the time he has lived through, the society he has observed, and the environment he has experienced have all inspired him to write poetry.

He presented poems that deeply measured the songs of struggle, the moral values lost within social structures, the calculations of relationships forgotten amid the hollow glitter of city life, and the pace of inactive runners left behind in the race of time.

While reciting his poems, the poet at times shared the backdrop of the creations, at other times expressed his views on contemporary poetry, and at moments recalled the literary pathways of his journey alongside senior, contemporary, and younger poets. This added further charm and vibrancy to the session.

Among those present in the audience were eminent literary figures including Sarubhakta, Ramesh Shrestha, actor Prakash Ghimire, Saraswati Shrestha ‘Saru’, Saraswati Pratikshya, Ishwar Mani Adhikari, Laxmi Sharan Adhikari, along with many other Pokhara-based writers and literature enthusiasts.

The poems recited by the poet encompassed themes of human sensitivity, political distortion, social anomalies, as well as national and international contexts.

Following the recitation, noted writer Sarubhakta praised poet Umesh Akinchan for being simple, courteous, and dignified, noting that his poetry reflects the same qualities.

"Despite simplicity and elegance, the poetry naturally employs rich imagery," he said.

At the event chaired by Deepak Samip, President of the Nepali Writers’ Association, Gandaki Province; Vice-President Laxman Thapa and General Secretary Sanjeev Paudel also spoke on Akinchan's writing.
