Rojina Bishwokarma wins Open Poetry Competition

Dharan, Jan. 22: Rojina Bishwokarma from Bhojpur secured the first position in the National Open Poetry Competition organised on the occasion of the 142nd birth anniversary of Kavishiromani Lekhnath Paudyal.

Poet Bishwokarma won the first place with the poem ‘Garibako ko Ganit’.

 Similarly, poet Basanta Chalise from Kaski with the poem ‘Ba’ secured the second position, poet Prakash Nepali from Parbat with ‘Budho Marker’ secured the third position, and poet Krishna Prasad Paudel from Nuwakot with ‘Anekata ma Ekata secured the fourth position.

The winners awarded cash prizes of Rs. 11,000, Rs. 7,000, Rs. 5,000, and Rs.  3,000 respectively.

In the competition organised by the Kavishiromani Society, out of 100 poems received from various districts across the country via online and physical mediums, 14 poems were shortlisted, informed the society’s secretary Bharatmani Bhattarai.

Likewise, poet Ganga Prasad Adhikari also known as Kholaghare Sahilo from Ilam, was awarded the ‘Prof. Tikaprasad Sharma Basti Memorial Award,’ and litterateur Bharat Barbari from Morang, who has been contributing to poetry, theatre, and acting for the past 44 years, was awarded the ‘Khadga Bahadur Thapa Memorial. Award’ They were honoured with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each.

Prof. Dr. Bhattarai highlighted the invaluable contributions of Kavishiromani Lekhnath Paudyal to Nepali society and said that several of his works were yet to be published. 

The recent publication of ‘Lekhnath-Rachanawali’ in five volumes under the editorship of Santakumar Wasti, son of Tikaprasad Sharma Wasti, and published by Nepalaya, is a significant achievement, he added.
