Rising Cricket Star Dipesh Kandel

Playing in a stadium filled with roaring fans is every cricketer's dream. For Dipesh Kandel, this dream became a reality as he rose to prominence in Nepal's cricketing world. Dipesh was just a child when he first heard about cricket. He was born in July 2004. Despite being a child from a middle-class family, his passion for cricket never waned, even as he balanced the demanding world of academics.

Managing both sports and studies is not everyone’s cup of tea, but Dipesh made it look effortless. His dedication to cricket never wavered, even when he paused his studies after doing his Plus Two from Shikshya Deep Campus. He credits his family as his biggest supporters, stating, “Every parent wants their child to excel in studies, but my parents have supported me in every step of cricket, not only cricket but every field I choose.”

Furthermore, Dipesh's hard work and perseverance paid off as he continued to climb the ranks in Nepali cricket. His breakthrough came when he qualified for the U-19 team, crediting his success to his family's support and his own determination. Nevertheless, Dipesh recalls the crucial moment in his life. “A big day came into my life, and it was the turning point for real,” Dipesh told this scriber.

As he donned the Nepali jersey, Dipesh knew the stakes were high. The pressure was immense-- from fans, coaches, and himself. The game began with a good start, but suddenly, tension filled the air. Sweating under the immense pressure, the players could feel the weight of the nation’s expectations. As the match neared its climax, every player prayed for victory, their expressions showing the intensity of the moment.

In the end, it was Dipesh’s extraordinary performance that turned the game around. He secured the final wicket with a hat trick, propelling Nepal into the U-19 World Cup. His special left-handed batting and slow-arm bowling style left everyone astonished. He had earlier stunned audiences with a six-wicket haul against Saudi Arabia U-19, marking his second consecutive six-wicket achievement.

Nepal's victory in the U-19 World Cup Qualifier 2023, where they beat the UAE by 7 runs, was historic. Dipesh played a crucial role, leading Nepal to their first World Cup in seven years. His all-round performance not only brought glory to the nation but also inspired countless aspiring cricketers.

His message to the youth is clear: "Doing something for your own motherland is better than going abroad for money. Focus on your passion, handle pressure in tough times, and take every step with brilliance."

Dipesh Kandel's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and the love for one’s country. As he continues to shine on the cricket field, he serves as an inspiration for the next generation of cricketers in Nepal.
