By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Aug. 5: Uttam Shanti Award-2080 has been presented to Roshan Sherchan for his anthology of essays 'Galli Sansar' amid a function orgnised in the capital.
A press communique issued on Sunday by Nayanraj Pandey, member secretary of Uttam Kunwar Memorial Award Treasury, read that the Award carries a purse of Rs. 100,000 and a copper plaque certificate.
Former Chancellor of Nepal Academy Basudev Tripathi handed over the Award to Sherchan.
Tripathi opined that the essays by Sherchan sketched the complicated tapestry of Nepali society, hailing his style and writing tendencies.
Poet Bhupeen traced the subtle features of 'Galli Sansar', adding that the book is a new achievement in the section of thought-provoking essays.
Galli Sansar was published in the previous year by Bookhill Publications.
Established in memory of Uttam and Shanti Kunwar by the Treasury, the Award is presented to the writer of the best non-fiction book published in the previous year.
The Award has been presented since 2044 BS.
Previously, this award was presented to Lain Singh Bangdel, Amber Gurung, Krishna Chandra Singh Pradhan, Jagdish Ghimire, Manjul, Parasu Pradhan, Narayan Dhakal, Bhupeen, Sharada Sharma, Illya Bhattarai, Durga Ghimire, Jhamak Ghimire, Pradeep Nepal, Krishna Dharabasi, Shri Om Rodan, Rabindra Sameer, Devendra Bhattarai, Karna Shakya, Devichandra Shrestha, Nirmohi Byas, Bhisma Upreti and others.
