By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar. 2: Nepalaya Publication has released a new book titled ‘Bahadur Shah’, authored by Chiranjivi Wagle, a senior Nepali Congress leader.

Wagle, known for his extensive political career, delves into the life of Bahadur Shah, son of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of Nepal.

Having served as a parliamentarian from Gorkha and minister thrice, Wagle brings a unique perspective to his portrayal of Bahadur Shah.

Bahadur Shah is considered a figure of intrigue and foresight in Nepali history.

Often depicted as a worthy successor to his father, he is also perceived as a tragic prince by some historians.

Despite his significant contributions to the nation, Bahadur Shah’s consciousness remains a subject of debate.

Following Prithvi Narayan Shah’s demise, Bahadur Shah took up the responsibility of expanding the kingdom further as a regent of child king Rana Bahadur Shah.

His reign witnessed the territorial extension of Nepal to the Tista River in the east and Kagada in the west.

While the manuscript of ‘Bahadur Shah’ was completed in 2076 BS, the editing process faced delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wagle felt compelled to shed light on Bahadur Shah’s overlooked role, driven by a deep affinity for a figure who cherished his country but remained marginalised.

Wagle emphasises Bahadur Shah’s pivotal role, often overshadowed by other historical narratives.

‘Bahadur Shah’ marks Wagle’s third literary endeavour, following his previous works ‘Bandhansalama Kheer’ and ‘Balidan Le Baneko Desh’.

Through this latest publication, Wagle continues his exploration of Nepal’s rich history, shedding light on pivotal yet often overlooked figures like Prince Bahadur Shah.
