Child rights protection building handed over

By Kedar Timalsina,Kavrepalanchowk, Feb. 9: A province-level child rights protection building constructed at Gaihrigaun of Panauti Municipality-5 in Kavrepalanchowk district has been handed over to the District Coordination Committee, Kavrepalanchowk.

Minister for Social Development, Bagmati Province, Kumari Moktan handed over the building to District Coordination Chief Deepak Kumar Gautam on Wednesday. 

According to the handover letter, the District Coordination Committee will be responsible for the entire ownership, management and operation of the building. 

On the occasion, Minister Moktan said that the Ministry and the Committee would jointly formulate a policy for the operation of the building and support keeping orphan children at the newly constructed building.  

"We will work by formulating a policy to operate province-level child rights protection building and will work in coordination with all the local levels within the district," he said.

Coordination Chief Gautam said that a separate fund would be established for the operation of the building. 

He said that coordination and cooperation between the federal government and local government is a must to bring up orphan children at the building.

The province government had put forward a plan to construct a province-level child rights protection building in the annual program of the fiscal year 2077/78 BS to keep about 100 orphans and helpless children in Bagmati province.

Public Works Implementation Unit of Kavrepalanchowk and Joshi, Kunwar UNS JV had signed an agreement for the construction of the building on September 27, 2020.

According to the bilateral agreement, the construction company completed the construction in mid-April 2022. 

According to the office, Rs. 51.92 million was spent for the construction of the building, which was contracted for Rs 53.459 million. 

Panauti Municipality had provided seven ropanis of land for the construction of the building. 

The three-and-a-half-story building has 17 rooms including a multi-purpose assembly hall, library and a kitchen.
