blog

By Basanta Parajuli,Bharatpur, Feb. 6: Ashmita Tiwari, brought up at Aadarsha Griha (Ideal Home), a shelter home for children and women at risk of violence and trafficking in Chitwan, tied the nuptial knot on Sunday.

Tiwari, 24, had been living in the centre since she was 14 years old. The centre made arrangements for her marriage to Mani Subedi, a resident of Waling in Syangja district.

According to Tiwari, the centre had taken care of her more than her own family. She said, "My mother died when I was two. After that, my father faced mental instability. I started living with a relative, but due to difficulties living there, I came to this centre at the age of 14."

After living in the centre, Tiwari resumed her school journey.

At present, she is studying bachelor's degree. The groom made a marriage proposal while she was pursuing her bachelor's degree and the centre organised a grand ceremony for the celebration.

At present, 32 women and girls, victims of various social and familial circumstances, are sheltered in the ideal home.

The centre, funded by various sources, has been also providing skill-oriented training to them. To date, it has successfully reintegrated 1,176 women and girls into society, with 46 of them having been married.
