Women’s Bilateral Series: Nepal take 2-1 lead

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 2: Nepal registered a consecutive victory over Malaysia to take a 2-1 lead in the five matches T20I Women’s Bilateral Series on Thursday.

Nepali defeated the host by 27 runs in Bangi. Nepali women made a brilliant comeback in their Malaysia tour after losing the first match by five wickets. Nepal tied the series by stunning the home side by seven wickets on last Tuesday. 

The victory over Malaysia on Saturday will earn Nepali national women team a historical T20I Series. 

Put on to bat first, Nepal scored 110 runs losing five wickets in allotted 20 overs.  Malaysia, in run chase, struggled to add 83 runs for the loss off four wickets in 20 overs. 

Kabita Kunwar, Sita Rana Magar, and Indu Barma grabbed one wicket apiece in the back-to-back victory of Nepal. 

Mahirah Izzati Ismail remained unbeated with 44 runs but her valiant batting was not enough for host. She hammered six boundaries off 54 balls. Opener Winifred Duraisingam chipped in with 38-ball 20. 

Earlier, skipper Rubina Chhetri top scored for Nepal with 27 runs off 15 balls. Her batting included three boundaries and a six. Wicketkeeper Jyoti Pandey hit three boundaries to collect 23 runs off 24 balls.

Opener Sita also chipped in with her patience knock of 35-ball 21. Indu Barma contributed 20 runs off 30 balls for Nepal. 

Nik Nur Atiela grabbed two wickets while Aisya Eleesa and Winifred Duraisingam took one wicket apiece for the host team.
