By Amar Raj Naharki, Tanahun, June 2: Singer Nabin Poudel, who has carved out a distinct identity in the field of Nepali folk music through realistic and socially conscious performances, has recently remained actively engaged in advocating for good governance and raising awareness against social ills through his music.

Poudel, originally from Palpa, formally began his musical journey around 28 years ago.

He officially entered the music scene with his debut album ‘Narou Dharkera Bas Parkhera’. He has since gained popularity through dozens of songs, including Shrinagar Batase Dandama, ‘Mayalu Timrai Ma Hu Ni Ke Galti Bhathyo Ra Bhet Hunda Bolnai Nahuni’ and ‘Satya Khanchhu Kasam.’

Known particularly for artistically criticising social disorder and misgovernance, Poudel recently released a song titled ‘Ma Ta Hajur Nijamatiko’.

His songs such as ‘Oi Sarkar Oi’, ‘Desh Lutnelai Kira Nai Paros’, ‘Bhrastachari Jatilai Puryai Diun Chheu, ‘Bolnai Parchha Oi’, which call for good governance and condemn corruption, have played a role in raising public awareness.

Speaking about his musical campaign, Poudel said corruption remains the main obstacle to the country’s sustainable development and prosperity.

He said, “Until distortions within society and state mechanisms are eliminated, ordinary citizens cannot truly experience good governance. Therefore, I will continue raising awareness through music.”

In recognition of his contribution to society and the nation through music, the state has honoured him with the Suprabal Janasewashree Chaturtha decoration presented by the President.

He has also received the Bagmati Provincial Talent Award from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Kalakriti Honour from the Bagmati Provincial Government.

For his musical campaign against corruption and social malpractice, he has also been honoured by the Hem Sarita Pathak Foundation in the United States with the Best Anti-Corruption International Song Award, carrying a cash prize of 1,000 US dollars.

Poudel has taken his musical performances to nearly 70 districts of Nepal and more than four dozen countries around the world.
