President, vp yadav extend best wishes on Republic Day

BY A STAFF REPORTER, Kathmandu, May 29: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended best wishes for peace, prosperity and happiness to all Nepali people living at home and abroad on the occasion of the 19th Republic Day.

In a message issued on Thursday, the President paid heartfelt tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their valuable lives for the establishment of the democratic republic in Nepal.

He also expressed respect to the revered leaders of political parties who led various movements for the establishment of the republic and highly appreciated the contribution of common citizens, masses and political activists who participated in those movements.

Recalling the historic declaration of Nepal as a republic by the first meeting of the elected Constituent Assembly on May 28, 2008, the President stated that the country has been celebrating Republic Day every year to commemorate the historic achievement made through the long struggle and sacrifices of the Nepali people.

President Paudel emphasised that strengthening accountable and people-oriented service delivery through the federal democratic republican system is a national necessity for achieving good governance, development and prosperity. He stressed the need for cooperation among all levels of government, the private sector and civil society to realise the constitutional goals of social justice, economic prosperity and inclusive development.

The President further stated that the Republic Day inspires all political parties, civil society and stakeholders to contribute from their respective fields to safeguard Nepal’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, national unity and self-respect while achieving sustainable, broad-based and equitable economic growth and building a civilised, cultured and prosperous society.

Similarly, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has congratulated all Nepalis at home and abroad on Republic Day and wished for peace, prosperity, happiness and further progress.

He has said that in a republican system, sovereignty lies in people so the core value of the republic requires people’s representatives to be accountable to general public.

Yadav further said that the republican system strengthens only if everyone moves forward giving equal importance to rights and responsibilities incorporated in the constitution.
