Project office requested to broaden postal road in Banke

blog

Nepalgunj, May 5: The Postal Highway Directorate Planning Office here has been requested to broaden the under-construction road at Khajura, Banke.

The locals here submitted a memorandum to the Office, arguing the ongoing construction of 1,800-m postal road in four-lane did not meet the changed need. The old standard of infrastructure is insufficient to the thriving city, they said.

The road construction which was stalled for nearly nine years began after termination of old contract. A local resident Sharan Karmacharya said narrow road poses high risk of accidents, so the concerned office was urged for widening it on time. The road requires widening one metre in each side in the current plan.

Office Chief Lila Bahadur Bhandari informed that they were positive towards local people's demand to widen the ongoing road construction.

The Road Division Office, Nepalgunj had signed a contract with Gajurmukhi Construction Company Pvt. Ltd Ilam on April 12, 2018 for the construction of a 1,800-m road in Khajura Bazaar, Banke and a 2,200-m road in Gulariya, Bardiya. The cost for the project was Rs 214.9 million.

However, the undertaking faced a significant delay due to legal hurdles since contract signing.(RSS)
