Addressing a press conference at Chumlung Him in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-15, Tirtha Mademba, Chairperson of the Kirant Yakthung Chumlung Dharan Working Committee, informed that Chasok Tangnam will be celebrated with various programmes on the Chumlung Him premises from December 4 to 8.
He said that during the period, there will be a cleaning programme, a rally, Chasok Puja, garlanding of the Sirijanga statue, Kelang (Chyabrung) dance performances, Yalang and Palam cultural programmes, Yakthung-style games, and other cultural performances.
Chairperson Mademba also noted that Chasok, traditionally a ritual of offering ripe crops to nature and consuming them at home, is now celebrated collectively by the Kirant Yakthung Chumlungs.
Harsha Subba, senior journalist and advisor of the Chumlung Central, said that the second national general convention held in Dharan in 1993 decided to develop Chasok Tangnam as the main festival of the Limbu community. Since then, a three-day Chasok festival has been organised annually on the premises of Kiranteshwor Secondary School, Dharan-19.
Chasok Tangnam is not just a religious festival but also a celebration of identity, unity, and cultural pride for the Limbu community. Subba added that the festival reflects the community’s connection to nature, hard work, gratitude, and cultural heritage.
The organisers have also announced that there will be 25 exhibition stalls featuring ethnic foods, and a free eye treatment camp will be held at Chumlung Him on December 7 as part of the festival celebrations.
