Kathmandu, Mar. 2: The book titled ‘Resistance of Khona (Khokana): The Struggle Against Land Encroachment’ by Anil Ranjit was launched on Friday. Ranjit has been engaged in photojournalism for a long time.  Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan unveiled the book amid a programme organised at the Patan Museum.

The book is written in three languages: Nepali, Nepal Bhasa and English. Mayor Maharjan stated that the book is a valuable document for heritage enthusiasts. He also said that he has already proposed declaring Khokana, along with Bungamati and Sunakothi, as a cultural city.

Author Ranjit shared that the book was prepared after nearly five years of studying Khokana. According to him, the book not only highlights the cultural aspects of Khokana but also sheds light on the community movements of the Khokana people.

Ranjit, currently working in Maryland, USA, has covered Khokana’s struggle, its identity, urban encroachment, the decline of traditional practices, participation in the Sikali festival and protests against the exploitation of ancestral lands in this book.

At the event, Surendra Bhakta Shrestha, president of the World Newa Organisation Nepal Chapter, remarked that the book attempts to raise awareness about the widespread issues faced by indigenous communities in Nepal.
