Teaching Hospital in Jumla starts ophthalmology service

By Our Correspondent,Jumla, Sept. 10: The Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Jumla has started providing the ophthalmology service.

Professor Dr. Sanduk Ruit, Executive Director of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology, inaugurated the service and the Department of Ophthalmology in Jumla on Monday. 

According to Dr. Ruit, the service has been started with necessary support from Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology as per the agreement signed with the Academy a year ago.

Dr. Ruit, a world-renowned eye specialist, suggested finding a way to serve the country from the Academy. The Academy will represent well for the higher-level students studying at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences, he said and urged the students to continue their studies to provide services to the people of Karnali. 

He said that work could be done if one paid attention with curiosity and emotions to the medical service.

Dr. Ruit also committed to performing surgeries for cataracts of more than 2,000 people within a year in Karnali in collaboration with the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology.

Expressing his happiness for being able to work in collaboration with Karnali Academy, Dr. Ruit said there were various challenges in the working process, but there was a need to adapt to the opportunity.

Dr. RP Bikshe, member of the National Planning Commission, informed that the Karnali Academy has been allocated Rs. 550 million this year. 

According to him, the Karnali Academy was established even though many people said it was impossible to establish it at that time. 

He also extended best wishes that Karnali Academy would produce doctors like Sanduk Ruit.
