By Chitra Mizar,Sindhupalchowk, Aug. 24: Continuous flooding triggered by constant rainfall has put more than a dozen houses at risk at Piskar in the Buslungkhola area of Tripurasundari Rural Municipality-4 in the district.
Among them, four households from the Thami community, which were at high risk, have been relocated to a safer place by building tent houses.
Families of Manmaya Thami, Babindra Thami, Balkumar Thami and Subash Thami, whose houses were at high risk of floods and landslides, were moved to a safer area at Patedanda by setting up tents, according to Ward Chairman Tek Bahadur Gubhaju (Bijay).
The rural municipality, the ward office, security personnel and locals jointly relocated them by managing to build tent houses.
Gubhaju said that since the displaced families had no other land apart from the one at Patedanda, they were relocated by setting up tents after clearing the crops from the land belonging to someone else.
He also said that the rural municipality and the ward office would purchase land and construct permanent housing for the displaced families in a safe place in the coming winter. Currently, four tents have been set up for the displaced families.
Piskar is always at high risk of floods and landslides. Last year, a landslide in Thadokhola claimed the life of a young man. In the past, a severe flood in the Sukhdal River also displaced dozens of households.
