Madhes Province Government to lower national flag at half mast in mourning

Godar (Dhanusha), Aug 2: The Madhes Province Government is to fly the national flag at half mast to mourn the demise of classical music maestro and singer Gurudev Kamat. The provincial government has decided to lower the national flag at half mast on Sunday.     

In a condolence message today, Chief Minister of Madhes Province Satish Kumar Singh paid tributes to the late Kamat and announced that the national standard would be flown at half mast at the government and public offices in Madhes Province on Sunday.     

A renowned name in the field of Nepali classical music, Gurudev Kamat, passed away on Thursday. He was 69. Suffering from kidney disease for the past few months, Gurudev Kamat underwent treatment in Kathmandu for few times, but returned to his birthplace-Pokharbhinda of Siraha - after not being able to undergo further treatment due to financial problem.     

Chief Minister Singh stated in the message that Gurudev Kamat was dedicated to and advanced the classical music throughout his life and contributed to its development. He paid heartfelt tributes to Gurudev Kamat, whom he described as a venerable personality who spent his whole life in the expression of emotional, spiritual, social and cultural subject matter effectively through music. Chief Minister Singh also extended condolences to the members of the bereaved family.     

He stated that the contribution made by the late Gurudev Kamat to the promotion and development of classical music will always be remembered.     

"The late Gurudev will be encouraging and inspiring all, always remaining as a bright star in the Nepali musical field, as an ideal follower of music, a guru and as a sensitive music composer and practitioner of humanitarian values in the genre of classical music," Chief Minister Singh stated in the condolence message.(RSS)
