Minister Sharma urges to make original films

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Mar.1: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has expressed her keen interest in the movie ‘Sati Devi,’ emphasising the need for the production of original and realistic films in Nepal.

Laxman Subedi, the writer, producer and director of ‘Sati Devi,’ issued a press release on Thursday, stating that he met Minister Sharma at her office in Singh Durbar on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Minister Sharma emphasised the importance of developing, expanding and presenting original stories for the overall advancement of Nepali films, read the press release. She expressed her interest in ‘Sati Devi’ due to its focus on female empowerment and original storyline, according to Subedi.

Director Subedi elaborated on the subject of his film to Minister Sharma during their meeting.

Minister Sharma highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting original Nepali movies.

She reiterated her stance in favour of the quality and commercial development of Nepali films, expressing readiness to soon implement the Film Act, added the statement.

Minister Sharma emphasised that films are powerful means of expression and they could play an effective role in the development and promotion of the country’s art, language and culture.

 She opined that filmmakers should engage in original film production.

Director Subedi expressed his happiness and inspiration by Minister Sharma’s interest and support for his film.

He noted Minister Sharma’s proactive stance toward enhancing Nepali films and supporting filmmakers, highlighting her role as a responsible guardian of the entire film industry.
