By Raju Lamichhane,West Rukum,Mar.1 : The ward office of Aathbiskot Municipality Ward No. 3 in Rukum West has made it mandatory to mention the bride and groom's birth dates on the invitation card.
According to the notice issued by the Ward Office, the office introduced the provision to implement the law against child marriage.
Keshar Man BK, Ward Chairperson, said that the wedding invitation card would be used to control child marriage and consumption of alcohol and tobacco.
"The birth dates of the bride and groom and a commitment to make the marriage party alcohol and tobacco-free should be mentioned in the invitation card," said BK.
The ward has already prohibited the consumption of alcohol and tobacco products. The ward has prohibited buying and selling of liquor in the ward since December 11, 2018, and the distribution, and consumption of tobacco products have been banned since November 21, 2022.
"The ward office is working strictly to implement the law against child marriage, and the introduction of date of birth on the invitation card will significantly deter child marriage in the municipality."
The ward office believes that if such information is provided on the invitation card, child marriage will be controlled and the use of alcohol and tobacco products in public places and ceremonies will be stopped.
Earlier, the ward office worked to generate awareness against child marriage which helped in stopping a few child marriages.
Similarly, Ward No. 14 of Aathbiskot Municipality has also been working on controlling the production and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
According to Prem Pun, Ward Chairperson of Ward No.14, the consumption and distribution of liquor have been banned in public areas including ward offices, schools and health institutions.
He said that sales of alcoholic products have been banned within 500 metres of public places. If somebody is found buying and selling alcoholic products ignoring the notice, they would be punished as per Alcohol Control Procedure-2018, informed the ward office.
