blog

By Our Correspondent,Humla, Feb. 29: The mercury has dipped to minus 20 degrees Celsius at Limi village located beyond the Himalayas along the Nepal-China border in Namkha Rural Municiplaity-6 of the district. However, a school here has been running the classes amid the cold.

Although the temperature has fallen to minus 20 degrees Celsius because of the sudden snowfall, we are continuing classes, said Bikal Tamang, headmaster of Sunkhani Basic School, the only school in Limi Village. The school operates classes up to sixth grade. Even in winter vacation, the teaching-learning activities continued in the school.

Tamang said they opened the school in the morning when the sky was only blanketed with clouds, and it was not snowing, but it started snowing in the afternoon leading to extreme cold. “However, we are continuing classes,” he said.

He said that the school has been managing morning meals and daytime snacks for 19 students and four teachers at the school.  Altogether, 19 students are in school. The students are wearing warm clothes, Tamang added. Of the four teachers, one is provided by the government and the school has managed three.
