By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 7: Nepal Electricity Authority has started the construction of Amarpur-Dhungesanghu 132 kV double circuit transmission line.
The transmission line begins from Amarpur Substation in Hilihang Rural Municipality of Panchthar and extends to Dhungesanghu Substation in Maiwakhola Rural Municipality of Taplejung.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the construction of Amarpur-Dhungesanghu line has been started to interconnect Kabeli Corridor 132 kV transmission line from Lakhanpur (Damak Substation) to Amarpur Substation in Jhapa and Koshi Corridor 220 kV transmission line from Inaruwa Substation in Sunsari to Dhungesanghu via Basantapur in Sankhuwasabha.
The Basantapur-Inaruwa section under the Koshi Corridor has been brought into operation. The construction of Basantapur-Dhungesanghu section is in the final stage. The Kabeli Corridor is operational.
The foundation stone of Amarpur-Dhungesanghu 132 kV transmission line was laid in the presence of Chairman of Hillihang Rural Municipality, Ward Chairman and local residents on Monday, said the NEA.
A total of 67 towers will have to be constructed along the 19 km transmission line. Around 200 megawatts of electricity can be supplied from the Amarpur-Dhungesanghu transmission line.
Project chief Anup Gautam said that the Amarpur-Dhungesanghu 132 kV transmission line has been started to reliably and efficiently supply electricity to the hydropower projects constructed and to be built in the Kabeli river watershed area.
According to him, as Koshi and Kabeli Corridor transmission lines are interconnected, if there is a problem in Kabeli Corridor for any reason, the electricity connected to that line can be supplied to Koshi Corridor.
The electricity generated from the hydropower projects under construction and to be built in the Tamor River watershed area will be integrated into the national transmission system through Dhungesanghu substation.
The project was started in the fiscal year 2018/19 with an investment of about Rs. 1.20 billion from the government. A contract was signed in 2022 for the construction of the transmission line. Project chief Gautam said that all the works under the project are targeted to be completed in the fiscal year 2024/25.
