By Our Correspondent,Inaruwa, Feb. 5: As ‘Basant Panchami,’ also known as ‘Saraswati Puja,’ is approaching, sculptors in Sunsari district are busy crafting idols of Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom.

Kamal Kishor Sharma from Gadhi Rural Municipality-3 is dedicating his craftsmanship to creating Saraswati idols. Many sculptors in Sunsari, including Sharma, have been actively encouraged to produce Saraswati idols for Saraswati Puja.

Saraswati Puja will be observed on February 14 this year.

This tradition has been consistent over the years, with the creation of Saraswati idols taking place across various locations in the district since January.

Binoj Kumar Yadav, a 35-year-old artist from Inaruwa Municipality-9, Babiya, said that he has been diligently working to craft 60 statues since the second week of December, with plans to complete 82 by February 12.  Yadav, who crafted 50 idols the previous year, is aiming to make 82 idols this year.

Shankar Pandit from Koshi- 1 also affirmed that the work is in progress to create 60 idols.

Bijay Pandit of Inaruwa-9 said that considering the usage of idols in Saraswati Puja, they commenced the creation of artistic idols of Goddess Saraswati using clay.

This not only facilitates the process but also serves as a source of income.

Pandit said that he has been following this practice for the past 10 years during every Saraswati Puja.

It is customary to worship Saraswati by placing the idols in every campus school and educational institution throughout the district.
