Kathmandu, July 27 : ‘Mahanagar’ (One Night in Kathmandu) is scheduled to be screened in the cinema theatres on August 25.

The film features Karma and Menuka Pradhan in the lead roles. It centers around the accidental encounter of two strangers one evening, leading to a series of consequential events. It was written and directed by Mohan Rai.  ‘Mahanagar’ was premiered worldwide at Kolkata International Film Festival in 2021.

Its journey continued with screenings at international film festivals such as the Nepal America International Film Festival, Washington DC South Asian Film Festival, and Asian Film Festival in Barcelona, Spain.

It also marked its presence at the Pame International Film Festival and the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) in Nepal.

Director Rai expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the film to the domestic audience after its successful screening in various international festivals.

He shared that ‘Mahanagar’ aims to portray the dreams and realities of young people who arrive in the metropolis with diverse aspirations. Drawing from his own experience of arriving in Kathmandu from a small village in the eastern district of Nepal, Rai found inspiration to convey the struggles of being an outsider in the city through the lens of a camera. He emphasised that the film primarily revolves around themes of human connection and hope.

Narendra Mainali has directed the cinematography of the movie produced under the banner of Middleway Films.
