Saving Oneself From Sudden Rain

blog

Summer in Kathmandu can be a challenging time as it is hot and humid, and it may rain unexpectedly. It is a time of the year when the heat is unbearable and the rain provides respite. However, unpredictability can have a significant impact on daily life.

One of the most effective ways to protect yourself from unexpected rain showers is to carry an umbrella or a lightweight raincoat with you at all times. Before leaving your home, make sure to check the weather forecast. This will give you an idea of what the weather will be like throughout the day. If there is a chance of rain, keep a compact umbrella or a foldable raincoat in your bag or backpack to shield yourself from the rain when needed. Additionally, carrying a waterproof bag will keep your belongings like laptop, wallet, phone set, and others from getting wet.

When it comes to shoes, we should wear comfortable shoes that can handle wet conditions. Choose closed-toe shoes to protect your feet from potential injuries, such as stubbing toes or stepping on sharp objects. As the weather is unpredictable, look for shoes with non-slip soles or good traction to reduce the risk of slipping and falling. Moreover, we should avoid wearing open-toed shoes or sandals, as these can be dangerous while walking on wet surfaces.

During these days, it is very important to drink plenty of water, at least 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Additionally, we should eat foods that are high in water content, like watermelon, cucumber, and tomatoes. These provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help boost your immune system and overall health. It is best to avoid heavy, fatty, or spicy foods. Furthermore, in order to stay cool and safeguard our skin, it is crucial to shield ourselves from the sun's rays by diligently applying sunscreen and donning a stylish hat, thus ensuring protection against sunburn and potential skin damage.

A crucial element of maintaining a healthy summer is prioritising sufficient rest. By ensuring ample sleep each night, our bodies can effectively recover from the challenges posed by heat and humidity. Additionally, it is essential to avoid overexertion during the day, allowing for a harmonious balance between activity and relaxation, leading to overall well-being and vitality.

Moreover, the rain can disrupt transportation, cause power outages, and damage infrastructure. It is important to stay safe during the rainy season. We should avoid walking in areas that are prone to flooding and never try to cross a flooded road or river. If you are driving, make sure to slow down and keep a safe distance from other vehicles.

It is necessary for the authorities concerned to focus on disaster preparedness to deal with the problems caused by unpredictable rains in Kathmandu. By heeding these precautions and tips, such as carrying an umbrella, dressing appropriately, and safeguarding your belongings, you can gracefully navigate through the rainy season with comfort and ease. Despite these challenges posed by the unpredictable rain, there is a captivating beauty that emerges during the rainy season in Kathmandu.
