blog

By Our Correspondent,Mahottari, Mar. 7: Mayor of Matihani Municipality Hari Prasad Mandal has been honoured with the first Dhahalel Shree Award.

The Mithila Cultural Development Centre of Jaleshwor awarded Mandal the Dhahalel Shree prize and Ram Adhar Kapar, social worker and an independent candidate in last November’s election for the House of Representatives, the Bhakchonhar Shree prize.

They were awarded at the Phaguwa Farara Danga and Vyangya Vinod poet conference the centre organised here on Sunday.

Both the awardees received a medal of Nanglo (flat woven tray), Gamchha scarf, bamboo glasses and a garland of vegetables.

Dhahalel is a colloquial word for lazy, good-for-nothing people. However, Mandal was given the award in a sarcastic manner to praise his work.

Similarly, Bhakchonhar is a name for those who know everything but pretend not to. Receiving the title, Kapar said that he would not adhere to the meaning of the word.

Various songs and poems related to the Holi festival were recited on the occasion.
