Motorcycle lifting racket busted

By Our Correspondent,Panchthar, Feb. 26: The Panchthar District Police Office busted a motorcycle lifting racket by arresting eight of its members from different parts of Tehrathum and Panchthar districts.

The arrests were made public through a press release by the district police on Saturday.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shree Prasad Tamang, 23; Shiva Kumar Tamang, 19; Suraj Magar, 20; Basudev Tamang, 21; Tara Basnet, 27; and Pabin Ingnam, 21. They hailed from Aathrai Rural Municipality of Tehrathum.

Similarly, Anman Diyali, a resident of Triveni Rural Municipality of Taplejung, and Birendra Rana, 28, owner of a garage at Phidim Bazaar of Panchthar.

They were arrested with five motorcycles and several dismantled parts of stolen motorcycles.

 “We are trying to identify the confiscated motorcycles and parts because the vehicle number plates have been tampered with,” said Inspector Brahmadev Sah.

The rackets used to sell the stolen motorcycles after some changes in design and condition, or dismantle the vehicle and use the parts in good condition.

Police said that they have sought permission from the district court to keep the eight individuals under judicial custody for further investigation.
