By Our Correspondent,Damak, Feb. 14: Construction works to bring the Provincial Children Hospital in Damak, Jhapa, into operation have been intensified under the leadership of Dr. Bhagwan Koirala.

Necessary infrastructures for the hospital are being built in the land of Nepal Red Cross Society’s Damak sub-branch, under the management of Kathmandu Institute of Child Health.

A team of Kathmandu Institute of child Health, including its chairman Koirala, discussed the hospital infrastructure under construction. The team inspected the structures of the OPD, NICU, Emergency ward and oxygen production.

According to Koirala, child-friendly and well-equipped structures are being constructed, and preparations are underway to bring the OPD services into operation by mid-March.

Stating that cooperation and support of the government were received to build the hospital, Dr. Koirala hoped that he would get more support in the future.

Former president of Red Cross Society, Damak, Lila Guragain said construction of other structures, including the building of the Red Cross Society, was moving ahead.  “We have provided our buildings to the hospital free of cost,” said Guragain.

He said they were happy that a model children specialised hospital of the province was being built in Damak.

According to president of Red Cross Society, Damak, Prakash Budathoki, the situation of taking their children to Kathmandu or India has ended with the construction of the hospital. He also said that as it is a community hospital, children who are deprived of getting treatment for lack of money would easily get treatment facilities in the hospital.

Meanwhile, programmes for the prevention and early detection of the major chronic diseases like kidney, high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease will be resumed. The programme had come to a halt due to the lack of resources.

The programme running under the leadership of Rector and Acting Vice Chancellor of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Sanjikumar Sharma was halted a few months ago.

Dr. Koirala and Dr. Sharma also discussed resuming the service.

Lab Construction of the Children hospital will be completed within a month and the halted programme will be resumed from the lab. Earlier, the programme was affected when Damak Hospital stopped cooperating with the programme.
