1.5 quintals waste collected from Shivapuri

By A Staff Reporter Kathmandu, May 16:  The European Union in Nepal and Clean-up Nepal have collected 1.5 quintals of waste from Shivapuri National Park. 

About 130 individuals from different social organisations participated in Shivapuri Clean-up Campaign jointly organised by the two organisations in the framework of Europe Week 2022 on  May 14. 

The campaign was organised to highlight littering and waste dumping as a harmful practice, the organisers said in a statement on Sunday. 

The participants started the campaign from National Park entrance gate towards 3- hiking routes, Nagi Gumba, Bishnu Dwar and Shivapuri peak to collect 153 kg of waste. Ambassador of the EU to Nepal, Nona Dreprez also joined the campaign. 

The volunteers also sensitised 165 National Park visitors to bring back their waste with them with the slogan 'Take memories, leave nothing but footprints'. 

The waste audit conducted after the collection showed 15 kg of paper box, 23 kg of glass bottles, 40 kg of PET bottles and 75 kg of plastic wrappers were collected from the hiking routes.
