By TRN Online, Kathmadnu, July 5: A courtesy meeting has been held between Minister of Communication and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina with the representatives of different agencies of the United Nations today. 

During the meeting, United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) for Nepal, Lila Pieters Yahia, emphasized cybercrime control, transparent governance system and effective use of technology in service delivery.

United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative for Nepal, Kyoko Yokosuka, said that cooperation is necessary in the expansion of digital systems.

She held the view that cooperation in digital systems such as Citizen App, Government Integrated Office Management System (GIOMS) and Hello Government should be further strengthened.

She pointed out that organizational collaboration and digital literacy are needed for curbing the spread of false information. 

UNESCO Representative to Nepal, Jaco du Toit,  touched the issue of Nepal's media landscape, the safety of journalists and professional freedom.

 In addition, he said that a joint initiative is needed to develop the capacity of civil servants for artificial intelligence and technology-friendly service delivery.

World Food Program (WFP) Representative to Nepal, Riaz Yasin Khan Lodhi, emphasized the need to develop a technology-friendly coordination mechanism in the fields of food security, disaster management, and emergency humanitarian aid.

Electronic governance, cybercrime control, media sector reform, journalist safety, information technology and service delivery improvement were discussed during the meeting.

During the meeting, Minister of Communication Dr Timilsina said that cooperation with United Nations agencies can be expanded in areas such as digital transformation, cyber security, reforming the media sector, reliability of information flow, and enhancing institutional capacity.
