Many residents of Budhiganga Municipality had left for India as soon as they cast their votes in the Local Level Elections held on May 13. However, the local elections were suspended in the municipality after irregularities were recorded in polling centres of different wards. A multi-purpose suspension bridge constructed in Duhu Rural Municipality in Darchula district is being developed as a tourist destination. After the construction of the bridge, which connects wards 1, 2, and 5 of the municipality, the one-hour journey for the pedestrians has been shortened. Dharan Sub-metropolitan City has started to run six vehicles (autos) by waste generated biogas. Biogas and organic manure have been produced from organic wastes by separating the organic and recyclable wastes that are thrown in the landfill. Biogas is being produced after a tripartite agreement between Dharan Sub-metropolis, Alternate Energy Promotion Centre and Venture Waste to Energy Pvt. Ltd. on June 8, 2017. The plant was built in 22 Katthas of land with a total investment of Rs. 240 million.
The benchmark of share market index, NEPSE, posted a double-digit growth of 57.61 points on Sunday, the first trading day of the week. The index which opened at 2,028.77 points closed at 2,086.38 points at the end of the trading hours. The continuously sliding share market has improved since last week. The NEPSE index had increased by about 9 per cent last week. The index, which closed at 1,862.06 points previous week, increased by 166.71 points and reached 2,028.77 points last week.
The Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) has made an arrangement to deposit the deducted amount of the employees directly in the account maintained at the CIT by the respective offices through the online system. This facility can be availed by the offices other than the government offices which distribute remuneration through CGAS (Computerised Government Account System), CIT said in a statement on Sunday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Sunday that Nepal was yet to send the decision of the government not to participate in the State Partnership Programme (SPP) of the United States of America (USA). According to Sewa Lamsal, Spokesperson for the MoFA, the ministry has received the decision on the SPP, and is currently studying the decision of the government. She maintained that since the earlier correspondences were not made by the ministry, it is gathering information and studying the matter. We need to understand the matter before we send the decision to the USA, she said.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling to construct an international airport without causing damage to the environment, wildlife and biodiversity, the government has pressed ahead with the works of Nijgadh International Airport in Nijgadh of Bara district in the south of the capital. On Saturday, top leaders of five-party alliance, including Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, inspected the proposed construction site of the airport and expressed their commitment to build it by respecting the Supreme Court verdict. On Wednesday, the SC released a full text of ruling in which three justices had annulled government’s all previous decisions regarding the construction of the international airport but it did not rule out constructing an international airport as an alternative to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) located in the federal capital, Kathmandu.

Thai Smile Airways has started its flight operation for Kathmandu to Bangkok from Friday. The company has planned daily flights from Kathmandu to Bangkok. The Airbus 320 aircraft designated to fly on the route has seating capacity for 162 passengers with 150 seats in economy class and 12 premium economy class. "It is a full-service carrier which includes onboard meal services. It also supports onward connections within all Thailand domestic airports and connections to international destinations like Australia, Japan and Kuala Lumpur on Thai Airways International," the company said in a joint statement with Society of International Travel Services which provides sales, marketing and airport operational services for the airways.
