Kul Man chosen chair of Ujyalo Nepal Party

Kathmandu, Jan. 11: Newly appointed Chairman of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, Kul Man Ghising, has said that his party was betrayed after the merger process with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) broke down.

At a press conference held on Saturday evening, Ghising accused the RSP of keeping his party entangled for 12 days, encouraging its cadres to join, and ultimately breaking the unity process.

According to Ghising, many unwritten agreements were made during the merger talks, and the Ujyalo Nepal Party did not have any major demands. “We only wanted the agreements to be implemented.”

He claimed that the media was completely wrong to report that his party had bargained for positions.

“We did not have any major demands from our friends during the agreement phase,” Ghising said.

“It is completely wrong to say in the media that we bargained for positions. Even though I was the vice-chairman, my ranking was very low. I was just an ordinary RSP member. This issue was not even a major one.”

He said that the RSP had initially agreed on issues related to inclusiveness and federalism as key constitutional principles but later backed down.

Despite lengthy discussions on how to proceed with the election process, the RSP took 12 days and delayed making decisions on proportional representation as well, Ghising said.

“We were ready to abandon everything and move forward,” he said. “This prolonged period of 12 days caused significant damage to the Ujyalo Nepal Party.”

He added, “The RSP told us that they no longer needed us and that they would move forward even without us.”

Ghising wished the RSP well but made it clear that the Ujyalo Nepal Party would now pursue its own path.

"The way we have left the RSP should not be considered as our weak position," he said. "Even when we tried to be honest in the unity agreement, we were forcibly kept out. Even in such a situation, we want to express our commitment to move forward alone."

However, he said that the party will collaborate with other interested groups in the coming days.

“I took the membership of the Ujyalo Nepal Party today itself, and I have been elected president at the central committee meeting held today,” he said. He said that if his party is given a chance in the upcoming elections, it will bring about similar changes nationwide.
