Govt committed to developing film industry: Minister Kharel

Kathmandu, Nov 6: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has vowed government support in development of film industry.     

During a meeting with filmmakers in collaboration with the Film Development Board on Thursday, Minister Kharel viewed policy reforms would be forwarded for overall enhancement of film sector. He stressed the importance of films that inspire the nation, society, and its citizens, while also igniting new debate.     

"Cinema is a reflection of society. It is crucial for the content and script' of films that aim to direct the nation, society, and its people." Minister Kharel reminded, adding that a film's plot should resonate with contemporary themes. Innovative aspects appeals to audience.     

Kharel pledged active support during his term for the welfare of film sector, the country and people.     

"The Ministry extends support and collaboration for any initiatives that benefit the film sector," he said, seeking right recommendation for the Central Film Censor Board.     

On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry, Radhika Aryal, affirmed that the Ministry would offer support for the sustainable growth of the film industry.     

Chairman of the Film Development Board, Dinesh DC, urged the government that it encouraged the construction of new cinema halls in districts or cities. He sought government support in amending the Film Act.(RSS)
