Bhaktapur, Oct. 26:Writers Dhruba Madhikarmi and Laxman Prasad Gautam were honoured with the Gwanga Sirapa (award)-2082 on Saturday.
Madikarmi and Gautam were honoured with the awards for their outstanding contribution to the Nepali literature.
The award is established by senior essayist Tejeshwar Babu Gwanga.
Essayist Gwanga presented cash prize of Rs. 50,005 to each, while the chief guest, Prof. Kedar Bhakta Mathema, handed over the certificates of honour to them in an event organised by Sahityik Samman Sangam in Bhaktapur.
Mathema lauded the contribution of the Sirapa to the field of literature. "Such honours and awards not only evaluate the writers' works but also serve as an inspiration for new creations," he said.
Award patron Gwanga shared that he was inspired to pursue literature after taking private lessons from Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota. "Honouring creators in this way makes me feel although I myself have created something new," he remarked.
Essayist Mukundaraj Sharma, spoke about the achievements and writings of the honoured persons. "Madhikarmi, known as a short story writer, skillfully incorporates contemporary issues into his satires, while critic Gautam’s essays beautifully explore the experiences of life," he remarked.
In the event, essayist Shree Om Shrestha Rodan and Sanjeev Gwanga also spoke about the honoured persons.
The Gwanga Sirapa is presented every two years to two literary creators.
