Tourist arrivals surge by 22%

Kathmandu, Sept. 3: International visitors' arrivals in Nepal have increased significantly in the month of August this year.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), a total of 88,680 international visitors entered Nepal in the month of August, 2025.

This is 22 per cent higher than the tourist arrival during the same month of last year 2024. A total of 72,717 tourists arrived in Nepal in the month of August 2024.

Notably, tourist arrival figure in the month of August this year represents a 93.6 per cent recovery compared to pre-pandemic levels in August 2019, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. 

A total of 94,749 tourists visited Nepal in the month of August 2019. A total of 736,562 tourists arrived in Nepal during the first eight months since January of the year 2025. 

According to the NTB, the highest number of tourists of 121,687 entered in Nepal in the month of March 2025 while a total of 116,490 tourists entered Nepal in the month of April. 

Similarly, a total of 79,991 tourists entered Nepal in the month of January, 96,880 in February and 86,216 in May, 76,425 in the month of June and 70,913 in the month of July this year.

India continues to dominate as the largest tourist-generating country for Nepal, contributing 40 per cent of total arrivals with 35,505 visitors in August 2025. 

China followed with 7,533 arrivals (8.5 per cent), while the United States of America accounted for 6,068 visitors (6.8 per cent), according to the NTB. 

Similarly, 5,956 tourists from Sri Lanka and 4,262 (4.8 per cent) have come to Nepal in the month of August.

Of the total tourist arrival, share of tourist from South Asia (SAARC) stood at 53 per cent (47,137 people), Asia (others) at  17.8 per cent (15,777 people), Europe at 12.6 per cent (11,132 people), Americas at 8.2  per cent (7,293 people), Oceania at 2.7 per cent (2,435 people), Middle East at 1.1 per cent (944 people), Africa at 0.4 per cent (322 people) and others at 4.1 per cent (3,329 people) in the review month.
