Kathmandu, Aug. 5: Paddy plantation has been done in around 84 per cent of the total paddy fields so far. According to the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agricultural and Livestock Development, paddy plantation in around 83.88 per cent of the total paddy fields has been completed by Sunday (August 3, 2025).
The paddy has been planted in 1.15 hectares of the total paddy fields of 1.38 million hectares across the country.
The paddy plantation has been lower by almost 13 per cent by August 3 this year compared with the same period last year. The plantation had been completed in around 96.47 per cent of total paddy fields by August 3, 2024.
The highest paddy plantation has been completed in Sudurpashchim Province while the Karnali and Lumbini Province stand second and third respectively in paddy plantation.
According to report, paddy has been planted in almost 99.72 per cent (175,652 hectares) of the total paddy fields in Sudurpashchim Province by August 3. Paddy is grown in around 176,151 hectares in the Sudurpashchim Province.
Similarly, paddy has been planted in 96.47 per cent (39,594 hectares) in Karnali Province and 95.96 per cent (290,708 hectares) in Lumbini Province.
The paddy is cultivated in 41,042 hectares in Karnali Province and 302,939 hectares in Lumbini Province.
The paddy plantation remains the lowest in Madhes Province. The paddy plantation has been done only in 57.28 per cent (213,438 hectares) of the total paddy cultivation area of 372,645 hectares of land by Sunday.
Due to lack of sufficient rainfall and unpredicted drought in Madhes Province, the paddy plantation has affected badly this year. However, with rains since Friday evening, the pace of rice planting is currently moving forward smoothly.
Likewise, almost 93 per cent (107,434 hectares) paddy plantation has been completed in Bagmati Province and 89 per cent (83,794 hectares) in Gandaki Province.
The paddy is cultivated in 115,621 hectares in Bagmati Province and 94,182 hectares in Gandaki Province.
Similarly, the paddy plantation has also affected in Koshi Province this year than the last year.
The paddy plantation has been completed in around 89 per cent (246,064 hectares) of the paddy fields in Koshi Province. Paddy is cultivated in around 276,387 hectares in Koshi Province.
According to the Centre, paddy plantation progress has decreased in all provinces during the review period as compared to same period last fiscal year.
Compared to the same period last year, the plantation in Madhes Province has dropped by over 38 percentage points, while plantation dropped by 6 percentage points in Koshi and 4 percentage points in Bagmati and 7 percentage points in Gandaki Provine.
Similarly, plantation has been lower almost by 0.3 percentage points in Sururpashchim Province, one percentage point in Lumbini and 3 percentage points in Karnali Provicne.
As of August 3 last year, paddy plantation had been completed in Sudurpashchim Province.
Similarly, as of August 3, 2024, 99 per cent paddy plantation had been completed in Karnali, 97 per cent in Lumbini, 96 per cent in Gandaki, 97per cent in Bagmati, 95 per cent in Madhes and 905per cent in Koshi Province.
