By TRN Online, Kathmandu, June 4: A Nepal-China cultural exchange event was held at the Gaurishankar Secondary School that is located in the Tamakoshi V Hydro Power Project area near the Nepal–China border in Dolakha.
The event was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD), the Nepal China Cultural Center, and Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), according to a press note issued by the organiser.
In this initiative, Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) supported the construction of the “Sowing Hope, Supporting Growth” library and stationery. The China Cultural Center showcased Chinese culture and images of famous Chinese tourist cities, while the China Foundation for Rural Development distributed sports kits to the students.
The newly established library is equipped with a diverse collection of books in the Nepali language related to China, suitable for different age groups, and is decorated with beautiful images of Chinese culture provided by the China Cultural Center. These resources are expected to help cultivate students’ understanding of Chinese culture, while the variety of equipment included in the sports kits enriches children’s physical activities at school, read the press note.
The event inaugural lamp-lighting ceremony attended by Counselor Zhu Feng from the Economic and Commercial Office of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, Director Liu from the China Cultural Center, Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of the China Foundation for Rural Development Nepal Office, as well as representatives from the local government, school management, and the project. The guests also officiated the inauguration of the newly built library and the cultural exhibition.
"As an important component of the “Chinese Culture Enters Campus” public welfare initiative, this project reflects the broader vision of strengthening people-to-people connectivity while supporting the development of quality education in project-affected areas. The activity was specifically implemented by the PowerChina Nepal Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project team, and it also aligns with ongoing efforts to promote responsible international cooperation and sustainable development by Chinese enterprises."
A lively and engaging cultural exhibition introduced students to China’s traditions, cultural heritage, and tourism resources. Through interactive activities such as paper-cutting and Chinese Knotting, students experienced the charm of artistic expression through hands-on practice while deepening their understanding of another culture. The gift distribution segment—featuring panda-themed items and “Year of the Horse” mascots—further added to the festive atmosphere, leaving the children with joyful memories, read the press note.
To further enliven the atmosphere, a sports interaction segment was organized in which PowerChina employees, dressed in their work uniforms, joined students in friendly badminton and volleyball matches.
This energetic exchange promoted teamwork and a spirit of inclusion, while also strengthening the connection and friendship between project staff and the local community.
At the event, Counselor Zhu Feng from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal stated that, on the occasion of International Children’s Day, the “Chinese Culture Enters Tamakoshi Public School in Dolakha, Nepal” initiative is highly meaningful. He noted that PowerChina have not only brought clean energy technology to the people of Nepal, but have also worked together with the China Cultural Center and the China Foundation for Rural Development to deliver tangible care and support. Through the provision of Chinese books, sports kits, and cultural exhibitions, the event stands as a vivid example of the successful integration of corporate responsibility, cultural exchange, and public welfare.
Chen Xu, PowerChina Country Representative in Nepal, stated that PowerChina has been deeply rooted in Nepal for years, from the “National Pride Project” Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project to the Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project, continuously supporting Nepal’s energy transition. We believe that true partnership goes beyond power plants, it also invests in the next generation. The “Chinese Culture on Campus” campaign, through sports donations, a book corner, and cultural activities, conveys China‑Nepal friendship and brightens children’s future. Wang Hua, Sinohydro Bureau 6 Co.,LTD. , stated that since entering Nepal, the company has adhered to the philosophy of “building a project, benefiting the community.” From the Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project to the Tamakoshi V Hydropower Project, it has promoted clean energy and sponsored two local schools. The “Chinese Culture on Campus” campaign, jointly launched with the China Cultural Center in Nepal and the China Foundation for Rural Development, demonstrates its social responsibility and commitment to China‑Nepal friendship. Sinohydro Bureau 6 will continue to contribute to local economic and social development and peopletopeople exchanges, according to the press note.
Director Liu from the China Cultural Center remarked that, on International Children’s Day, gathering with Nepali children along the magnificent Tamakoshi River is not only to witness the construction of a modern Chinese hydropower project, but also to sow the seeds of friendship and knowledge. By joining hands with Chinese enterprises in Nepal to launch this “Chinese Culture Enters Campus” initiative, they hope to bring the richness and diversity of Chinese culture closer to Nepali children, allowing cultural exchange and mutual learning to become a nourishing source for the shared growth of China–Nepal friendship.
Zou Zhiqiang, Country Director of the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) Nepal Office, stated that since 2015, CFRD has been working in Nepal with sustained investment in children’s education and well-being. She emphasized that over the years, the organization has consistently focused on improving the living and learning conditions of children in remote and underdeveloped areas through practical measures such as school support, development of learning resources, and extracurricular activities.

On the occasion of International Children’s Day, together with the China Cultural Center, they have brought Chinese culture into schools located in the hydropower project area, sharing it with Nepali children. The event concluded successfully with appreciation from local government authorities, school management, teachers, parents, and students. Through the integration of knowledge, culture, and connection, the International Children’s Day celebration held in Dolakha not only enriched the children’s growth and experiences, but also further reinforced the enduring value of cooperation in building stronger and more inclusive communities, according to the press release.
